Job Summary

We are looking for an attentive and driven Senior Radar Systems Engineer to join our team. Your main duties will be developing, implementing, and testing signal processing algorithms to exploit synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery. Day-to-day responsibilities will be primarily focused around developing code in various stages of maturity (from prototype to production level) in a fast-paced environment for Ursa Space’s ongoing Airborne Moving Target Indicator (AMTI) effort as well as to solve problems in a multitude of Ursa Space’s other applications. Projects can range from fundamental SAR image processing to geospatial processing to data fusion approaches. 

This position will report to the Director of Analytics. 

 

Job Responsibilities              

  • Contribute to state-of-the-art processing techniques to solve customer problems using commercial SAR imagery
  • Design SAR collection parameters tailored for AMTI
  • Develop proof-of-concept demonstrations for internal and external use
  • Perform analysis to determine expected performance of processing algorithms for specific use cases
  • Participate in agile software development processes to bring algorithms into operational use
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate frequently with peers
  • Mentor junior members of the Analytics team
  • Lead technical subject areas
  • Provide technical leadership to projects and programs
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and/or other technical discipline
  • 7-10 years of experience
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Prior experience developing or working with remote sensing and signal processing algorithms for various sensing modalities, including SAR, electro-optical imagery, RF, or others
  • Complete understanding SAR imaging modes and algorithms 
  • Understanding of commercially available SAR imaging products in various modes 
  • Complete understanding of single-shot object detection and classification models. 
  • Proficiency in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras) and geospatial analysis tools (ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively
  • Experience working on a cross-functional team developing solutions to complex tasks
  • Active curiosity and a desire to learn and grow as a technical expert
  • A fast, reliable internet connection if you are working remotely is a must

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other technical discipline
  • Proficiency in Java
  • Image processing techniques
  • Statistical analysis techniques
  • Understanding of GIS, preferably in the context of SAR imagery
  • Modeling and simulation of radar systems and imagery
  • Familiarity with compensated phase history data (CPHD) format
  • Prior experience with moving target indicator 
  • Computer vision and machine learning techniques
  • Prior experience working with government contracts and/or interfacing with external customers
  • Experience with GPU Analytics and GPU accelerated database technology
  • Experience with Cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
  • GIS software packages, such as ArcQIS or ENVI
  • Experience adhering to security best practices

Compensation

  • $140,000 - $175,000, relative to skills and experience

Location

  • Hybrid or Remote. Required attendance at mandatory Ursa meetings at Headquarters when necessary (typically 2-3 times per year)
