Job Summary
We are looking for an attentive and driven Radar Systems Engineer to join our team. Your main duties will include supporting the development, implementation, and testing of signal processing workflows to exploit synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery. Day-to-day responsibilities will focus on SAR image ingestion, data formatting, maintenance of SAR-related software (i.e. SARPy), and assisting senior staff with analytic development. This role will provide essential support to ensure Ursa’s SAR infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and adaptable to new data sources and vendor modes.
This position will report to the Director of Analytics.
Job Responsibilities
- Support SAR image ingest and preprocessing workflows
- Maintain and adapt SARPy to handle evolving vendor modes and formats
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving SAR formatting issues
- Contribute to the development and testing of SAR processing algorithms
- Participate in agile software development processes to bring tools into operational use
- Engage in design discussions, code reviews, and peer collaboration
- Communicate effectively and collaborate across teams
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline
- 2-3 years of relevant experience (internships or academic projects acceptable)
- Proficiency in Python
- Familiarity with remote sensing and signal processing algorithms, ideally SAR-focused
- Understanding of SAR imaging modes and commercially available SAR products
- Basic knowledge of object detection and classification models
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively
- Active curiosity and a desire to learn and grow as a technical contributor
- A fast, reliable internet connection if you are working remotely is a must
Preferred Skills/Qualifications
- M.S. or higher degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical field
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)
- Exposure to geospatial analysis tools (ArcGIS, QGIS)
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with SARPy
- Understanding of GIS in the context of SAR imagery
- Knowledge of modeling/simulation of radar systems and imagery
- Exposure to computer vision or machine learning techniques
- Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience adhering to security best practices
Location
- Hybrid or Remote. Required attendance at mandatory Ursa meetings at Headquarters when necessary (typically 2–3 times per year).
Compensation
- $90,000 – $120,000, relative to skills and experience
